5 Designer Canvas

The pipeline canvas, where you can drag Snaps to build pipelines. The canvas has a dotted grid background that subtly fades out as you zoom in or out. The pipeline canvas features a dot-grid background that provides the following benefits:

  • Improved spatial orientation: The evenly spaced dots give users a consistent visual reference, making it easier to gauge distances and relationships between Snaps on the canvas.

  • Better alignment and layout: The grid provides implicit alignment guides, helping place and arrange Snaps in a more organized, readable manner without relying solely on Snap-to-grid tooling.

  • Enhanced visual hierarchy: The subtle dot pattern creates a clear distinction between the workspace background and the pipeline elements (Snaps, links, notes), reducing visual clutter and improving scanability.

6 Minimap Shows a small preview of the full pipeline with a draggable viewport indicator to navigate large pipelines quickly. It appears only when the canvas is larger than the viewport, and while you scroll.

Pipeline and Snap basics

Snaps are the building blocks of a pipeline. Each Snap performs a single function, such as read, parse, transform or write data. A Snap Pack contains a set of related Snaps. The Snaps catalog on the left side of Designer lists Snap Packs and Snaps. Core Snaps are available in all environments. Premium Snaps are available by subscription. You can request a free trial for Snaps that are of interest. Learn more about designing pipelines.

Snap configuration includes an Account tab that stores the credentials and configuration required to connect to your endpoints, such as databases and file systems. Any Snap that communicates with an external endpoint needs an authenticated account to access endpoint resources.

You don't need to create a pipeline from a blank slate. The Public pattern library offers a variety of templates for common use cases. In an environment with a SnapGPT subscription, you can ask SnapGPT to generate a starter pipeline or help with data mapping and expressions.
